Project
New business hub completes

Posted on 10 July 2023

The COVID pandemic has accelerated dramatic changes to our living, working and shopping habits resulting in acute challenges for our town centres and high streets, already feeling the pressure from out-of-town shopping centres. Lying just inside the M25 and with rapid train connections into London, Swanley is the perfect location for those looking to move out of London for a better quality of life but it has become an anaemic dormitory town, dominated by an Asda superstore with a faltering, disjointed high street.

Sevenoaks Borough Council has taken the initiative in sparking new life into its town centre. A vacant site on the High Street has been redeveloped for new housing above a business hub that offers local residents the opportunity to work remotely. New housing in the heart of the town will improve prospects for local shops and restaurants while the business hub provides activation throughout the day. The project is the first, but significant step in retaining homes and businesses in the heart of the town, addressing evolving ways of living and working and adding vitality.
