Victoria Point student housing shortlisted for Housing Design Award

Posted 3 September 2025

We are delighted to see Victoria Point student housing shortlisted at the Housing Design Awards.

Working with Empiric Student Property plc and 5plus architects, the redevelopment proposals provide a fresh and holistic approach to the Manchester site.

The project will revitalise and expand the existing student housing, increasing capacity from 566 to 876 bed spaces (a net uplift of 310 beds). Wherever possible, we have sought to retain and retrofit the existing buildings to improve energy performance and visual appearance, whilst two new buildings will be added.

A wide range of new facilities will be introduced, including a gym, co-working and training spaces, and landscaped courtyards alongside generous cycle storage and improved pedestrian connections. Inspired by Manchester’s industrial heritage, a strong grid of windows will be set deep into new brick facades, reminiscent of historic warehouse buildings. Subtle banding and coloured ceramic detailing echoes that of Victoria Baths nearby.

Victoria Point aims to create a vibrant and supportive student environment that contributes to Manchester’s growing need for high-quality accommodation. More information can be found on the HDA website: https://hdawards.org/scheme/47795_scheme/
