Plans submitted for Beach Street
Posted on 12 November 2025
Something a little different for us…
Working closely with Canterbury City Council, we've submitted plans to revitalise a key site in the Kent seaside town of Herne Bay. If approved, the four-storey mixed-use building will deliver six new homes and flexible commercial space, while reinstating the façade of the existing Regency terrace that fronts a portion of the site onto Central Parade.
On the site of a derelict amusement arcade, the design offers a modern interpretation of the Regency townhouse that once occupied part of the plot. A sweeping curved roof terrace introduces a sculptural language that mimics the curved frontages of the commercial unit at ground level. The architecture acknowledges the history and character of the area, playing with the rhythms and proportions of the existing historic frontages to create a design that sits harmoniously alongside the adjacent listed Clock Tower.
The successful delivery of this first phase of development will unlock the rear of the site for a second phase which will consist of 100% affordable family homes.
It has been a pleasure to collaborate with Canterbury City Council once again and to celebrate the unique coastal character of this site. We look forward to the planning decision.
