Part Z: a call to regulate embodied carbon

This week at COP30, the world is focused on climate action. We recognise that the built environment industry has a huge part to play in addressing the climate crisis which is why we are proud to support the Part Z campaign; a call to regulate embodied carbon in construction.

While operational emissions in the built environment are regulated, embodied carbon (emissions from the production and use of construction materials) is not, despite generating more emissions than the UK's aviation and shipping industries combined.

Over the last few years, we have learnt from the extensive research and guidance published on embodied carbon and made it a central component of our design process. With the climate and biodiversity crisis demanding urgent action, embodied carbon regulation is an important next step for reducing emissions in our sector.
