Planning permission granted for 22 new Canterbury homes
Posted on 6 August 2025
We’re pleased to share that planning permission has been granted for two affordable housing developments for Canterbury City Council, which will deliver 22 homes for affordable rent.
At East Street, 11 two-bedroom homes are arranged in an L-shaped layout around a central court. Each house features a private garden and ground-floor bedroom, designed for flexibility and comfort. Front patios with built-in seating encourage neighbourly interactions. Historically the local area was host to stables and army barracks. The architectural design takes cues from the site history and rural architecture in and around Canterbury. A pitched roof with deep eaves and large dormers draws on vernacular references.
At Warwick Road, 11 dual-aspect homes replace disused garages and a car park. Each includes large windows, balconies, and views over the city and Bab’s Hill. Inspired by Canterbury’s artistic heritage, window placements intend to frame key landmarks like the Cathedral to create a ‘living picture gallery’. The architecture references hillside Swiss farm buildings and proposes flint blockwork and soft brick tones to help the homes harmonise with the natural and historic setting.
These projects not only provide much-needed affordable housing but also breathe new life into underused sites, enhancing the neighbourhood’s character. Thank you to Canterbury City Council and all collaborators, we look forward to the next steps.
