Planning granted for community-led housing

Southwark Planning Committee have unanimously approved proposals for a new community-led development comprising 25 new affordable flats, together with a new community hall and landscaped garden on the site of Styles House in Southwark.
The proposals, facilitated by a land-swap between Southwark Council and Transport for London, were developed with the Styles House TMO and Igloo Community Builders.
As well as the flats, the new building will incorporate a community room, community workspace and a bedroom for residents’ guests as well as a new entrance for the existing building and remodelled communal garden. The new development was overwhelmingly supported by existing residents in a ballot, with 90% voting in favour of the new homes on an 84% turnout.
The buildings will be clad in pink and green glazed terracotta tiles that echo the tones of Styles House and the surrounding landscape whilst the structure is being developed to reduce the embodied energy of the building with timber CLT floor cassettes within a steel or concrete frame.
