St Chad’s wins an RIBA East Award

St. Chad’s has been recognised with an RIBA East Region Award, to go with the RIBA London Award received for Gasholder Park. St. Chad’s, located in Tilbury, is the first project to be realised by Gloriana, Thurrock’s new development vehicle. The project comprises 128 homes for affordable and private rent on a brownfield site that seeks to act as a catalyst for regeneration in a highly deprived area. The new housing is arranged around a green spine that focusses on long views towards Tilbury docks as well as providing amenity for residents and sustainable drainage in this low lying region. The RIBA judges’ citation notes;

“Bell Phillips have been an integral partner in this campaign, and on each of the sites they have offered thoroughly modern, innovative and generous architectural designs. The selfless efforts the architect and client have made on behalf of local people is truly impressive. All this in some of the most depressed areas of the region. These are houses that would be prized and pampered in more privileged parts of the country…They could show the housebuilders a thing or two about placemaking, even in areas of low house values and little investment.”
